Personal Statement
Studying Surface Pattern Design at Swansea Metropolitan University has allowed me to explore the rich possibilities of the technique - utilising my passion for detail and transferring my designs to cloth. My work is mainly inspired by natural forms: the minutiae of the landscape and seascape - plants, insects, rocks, shells and exotic birds. Combining illustration and pattern design, I use detailed hand-drawn images as a starting point and then re-work the drawings using Adobe Photoshop, transferring this to fabric using the digital printer.
I strive to produce eye-catching and innovative designs full of colour and texture. I love working with silk fabrics such as twill and organza because of their facility to emphasizes detail and produce a luxurious finish. My ambition to build on this experience to become even more creative and accomplished, producing collections that will bring pleasure to the eye and to the touch.
